55 Ford steering

Hey friends. I'm new to this and this is my first post. I recently bought a 55 fairlane older restoration and have many questions but this is one of the more important ones. My ford sits on what i believe is about an 80 Cutlass frame. when they put the Ford body on, they had to alter the steering and in doing so they tilted the column so that 18 in steering wheel actually touches my legs. I want to be able to restore it to its original "slope" but I cant because it would drop below the level of the steering gear. also they stripped the threads where the wheel bolts on. If I can use a different column, I'd want to be able to bolt on the original wheel to maintain the stock appearance. It has a 302 in it but I'd like to maintain the body and interior p
pretty much stock. I,d sure appreciate any advise I can get. Thanks, fairlaneguy
