56 chev. rear end gear picture?
 

can someone pull up a picture of 3rd mimber showings the gears in including pinion and assc. gears non positraction for my 56 chev. I purchased a used 3rd member and think something is missing. Hope I`m wrong. Thanks

i'm guessing it would be easier if you post a pic of what you got, and we'll let you know if we see anything missing.

1`ll see if i can put on a pic, but i wonder why there is not 2 gears on the shaft between the gears that are on ends of axles. i know this is dumb on my part, but the gears on end of axles right now are floating and looks to me that they will hit the center pin?

There should be at least 4 gears inside the differential. If the axle gears are the only thing in it then the pinion gears are missing. Probably broke and didn't get replaced.

the pinion and ring gear are in place but the center section on has 2 gears on end of axles.

2 spider gears are missing

Thanks Poncho that is exactly what I bought, it is supposedly from a 59 Impala. I am missing the 2 spider gears from the cross pin. Do you or anyone else know if my 2 spider gears will work in there? By my measurements it looks like they will. Thanks

Give it a try. All you have to loose is some time.

What Big said. You can install them and be able to tell it if will at least rotate OK out of the housing.
