56 Clutch Pedal Help

Evening,

First post so hopefully one of you out there will take pity on a Newbie and help prevent me from losing what little hair I have left and answer the following question.

Tri Chevy with a manual box. How does the return spring attach to the pedal box? I have an S shaped "hook" which attaches to the end of the spring and hooks over the rear of the pedal box but it doesnt seem "right" as the spring catches on the box and makes a awful Boing noise.

I only took the car apart 11 years ago so I thought I would be able to remember how it all goes back togeather... Yea Right!

Thanks in advance,

P.

Put a few on my 56 back in the 60's , but I cannot remember for sure. The best I can recall there is a little booger on the side of the pedal that the spring hooks over and I think there is a tab that sticks out on the side of the housing with a groove cut in it for the spring to hook over.
Just can not remember.

clutch pedal spring

I also have a 57 chevy with a 350 and a 5 speed. I installed a centerforce clutch and pressure plate in it. When winding it out the clutch would stay on the floor when I shifted. I called centerforce and they said leave the large SPRING under the dash OFF, and it will be fine. I did just that and bingo, it was fine. Just put a weaker spring on the return fork under the car to keep the throw-out bearing off the pressure plate and throw out that big one. I guarantee this will work, mine is 4 years old. steve

I have a 5 speed in my 55. I was having trouble with the clutch "hanging" right at its engagement point. Made it a bear in heavy traffic.
I removed the under dash spring and mounted a lighter spring off of a bracket that bolts to the scattershield and hooks to the throwout arm...Pretty close for an old guy on his first try!!!!
