Post '56 Olds rear end

I need a good third member for a '56 Olds rear end as backup to the one I am running. Anyone got one they want to sell?

I have a narrowed '56-earlier type rear out of a front-motored digger, with Moser axles, and a Thompson magnesium third member. Comes with extra parts, too. There are some disc brake parts and I think also some extra gears. Best yet for you, I am in the Los Angeles area. $650 takes all.

But are you sure you have a '56 rear in the Willys? Most door cars used the larger '57-64 rears...

Yes I have the '56. I built the car from the ground up from a stocker and bought a wrecked '56 Olds 98 for parts. Your unit sounds awesome but I already have mine set up so just need the spare third member in case mine dies some day.

Hi, Are you still looking for an
olds rear? I have a 55 Pontiac pumpkin and a 58 Olds pumpkin. Would they work for you? If not, I know where there is a 56 Olds in a junkyard. Steve

The '55 Poncho might work but they changed the Olds design slightly so the '57 up (Most popular) gears won't fit my earlier design. Let me check on whether the Pontiac and Olds are interchangeable and get back to you. I am DEFINITELY interested in the junk yard '56.

Just had a thought - could you post a picutre of the outside, pinion side of Pontiac third member? If it has two really big strengthening ribs, it might be the same as the Olds. The later, stronger Olds had three smaller ribs instead of the two big ones.

I have a picture, but do not know how to put it on the board. If you e-mail me, I do know how to send it to you thru e-mail. Steve
