Post '56 Pickemup or '89 'burban

Need some assistance from you guys. New to the post and new to killin time with my new hobby. Got a '89 Suburban that my wife retired to me when I bought her a new one. Been a good truck, smokes a little (well, a lot) when accelerating. Thinking the valve guides are probably wore. Therefore, uses a little (well, a lot) of oil. As long as I baby it it runs just fine. However, what's the fun in that? Thinkin 'bout replacing the heads and maybe a master rebuild.

Now, with that being said, my father-in-law has given me his '56 Chevy Pickup. Needs everything, except trans and rearend. He is getting on up there in years and would like to see his truck rodded out and back on the road (and I would too).

Nowtofor , is it blasphamy to make a rod our daily driver, or should I put some money into the 'burban first and garage the '56 unitl further notice. It sure seems like a waste of money not to put it into the '56 and use it for my daily driver and work on it as I drive it...

Give me some experience...

It's no crime to use it as a daily driver if you want to use it as a daily driver. It's yours and you can do with it what you want. Drive the Burb while you work on the truck then after the truck is together drive the Burb. Either way it keeps them out of the boneyard.

Daily driver needsto be somewhat reliable. Id rebuild the 'burb's engine first. That way you can go fetch parts for the '56 faster!

Ahh, clarity is beginning to outweigh the lust for coolness...
