57 Chevy rear axle

I have a question about the 57 chevy belaire rear axle. I currently have one in a 65 ChevyII with a 327 30 over w/tunnel ram 2 660's solid lift engine (old school Crane kit) and 11.5:1 comp. ratio. 202 corvette heads. Has a powerglide w/ATI 3000 stall converter. I have done the spin the wheel and count revolutions and came up with a 456 ratio. My question is, how can I tell what center section I have. I have heard some olds/pont. will bolt in and that they are stronger than the chevy version. is there a way to tell for sure what I have. I also have heard that with the power I make and slicks one day I will be picking up the peices at the starting line! I have been racing the 1/8th mile and it seems to be holding up well even with the front wheels up 3.5degree pinion angle. Any info on this axle would be great! Maybe some tips from the old school guy's.

The '55 to '64 Chevy center will bolt into the Chevy II housing, but the Old and Pontiac center will not bolt in. You would have to swap the complete rear end. The Olds Pontiac rear end is stronger than the Chevy 8.2 that you have now. If you want to continue using the Chevy rear end you can upgrade a few things on it to make it stronger. You might want to look into this. http://www.bruneauperformance.ca/409...rendparts.html
