gearheads update

filed a complaint with BBB of MN/ND.Asked for buyback of $800.00 out of $1196.00.I feel this was fair.My feeling is that the part[sector shaft teeth] were defective and they knew what they were selling.Or mabey they are blind !!Gearheads cruzier products offered to repair box, but, why did they sell it in that way in the first place????

There is only one guy I'd trust with repairing that box,
redhead steering, in Seattle...

I am in the same boat, and I am sure there are many more of Gearheads customers that are unhappy. After many weeks of emails and phone calls to them, they finally offered to look at my box. I took them up on that because I have no other alternative since I donít have any of the original steering parts although I do have another steering box that I think may work. I will make a separate post on that. I would like to tear the 605 down to look at the internals like grandpaws 57 did but I canít be without a steering system. They sent the box back and I installed it and I drove it around a little but not enough to see if the binding problem was fixed. Iíll have to wait for the summer for that when the weather gets warm. I emailed them to ask what was wrong with it and all they said is that they replaced several components. I really donít have a good feeling about it though.

Could very well be in your gear box but if all the other suspension parts are new, there is one other thing you need to check that will cause this problem.

First check is check distance from top of both front tires to edge of fenders.

The real check will be Doing an X measurement on your frame to see if square.
It is not uncommon for these cars to have been hit in front (left in your case)
and not be pulled out properly but the sheet metal made to fit.
If your gear box is good from what you described from the fire wall forward your frame could be 1/2 inch to an inch to the left or left rail could be 1/2 to and inch forward from the right.

This may or may not apply to you but have seen this way to many times with the 55-65 fords and may be worth a check.

Well did not mean to insult you but I about fell out of the chair laughing when I read your response.
Last Feb I saw a fully restored 57 factory supercharged for sale for $65,000, awful cheap. The owner and restro shop had been trying to figure out why his car did the same thing as your except to the right.
As soon as I drove it I knew the problem.
The only mistake the shop made was having the gear box rebuilt and putting on radial tires and both items magnified the problem that was not there before.
This guy owned the car since 72.

The car was very sentimental to the guy so i told him what it was and his response was the same as yours, so with that I said fine and bought the car.
Three frame machines and $2200 later and an alignment, I sold the car back to him for $85,000.
Takes ten minutes to measure.

just got home from the ford show in silver springs fla. met a guy with a very nice 59 country squire sedan . he is the original owner and his only issue seems to be with his power steering. you guessed it gearheads 605 box when i described your problems to him he said it was exactly the same with him. he even said he used to post a note with his car to avoids gearheads. Grandpaws topic has definately caused gearheads some business as they continue to call me about when i want to have my box made . i have purchased a wurthit r/p. .So VENDORS beware offer your products but make sure you give cusomer service if you want to succeed and Buyers check with the website to see if anyone has had any dealings with the company
