57 Gmc 347

I just picked up a 57 GMC 100 with a 347 with a 2bbl and manual trans. Problem is, all the info I can find on the 347 states that the # on the block should be 523293. Mine is 523283. One # off. Looks like 347. It has the coolant inlets on the heads. Could anyone tell me why mine is one # off? Also I have a 4bbl Edelbrock carb I want to put on it, so I need a 4bbl intake. I know Edelbrock stopped making an intake for the 347. Does anyone know another intake manifold I could use? And do I have to change the cam? Thanks, Scott

GM casting numbers are difficult to read. That 8 is probably a 9.

That is a Pontiac engine.

The serial number of the engine is stamped on the right side on the oil pan rail. The beginning digits is the engine cid.

I would keep the 2-barrel if it were me, but you can certainly get a factory 1964-back (IIRC) 4-barrel intake, or hit up eBay for an old aftermarket intake.

I agree the casting number was just blurred during manufacturing and is likely a "9", not an "8"

Does the 389 manifold not fit the 347?

57 gmc 347

Thanks guys. For now I'll use the 2bbl while I look for a different intake. Also, I have a powerglide and a T400 trans. Anyone know how I can make one of these work with my 347. Do I need an adapter?
