I was reading that the 57 Chevy was originally going to be built on a new larger shell, but financial constraints forced a remake of the 55-6 body ....
That got me to thinking ...
What if there was a limited edition 57 Impala based on the Buick Special shell? Something that was unmistakably a Chevy (not a wannabe Caddy like the El Morocco), and yet a little bit more ....
Maybe it would have had somewhat more flamboyant chrome, a 59 dash (which would have been in R&D by 1957 and goes nicely with the swept-back styling of the 57), twin 56 tail lights, and an Impala SS interior featuring an array of gadgets to rival the Turnpike Cruiser
Woulda, coulda, shoulda..........but, it didnt happen........nice to dream I guess.
I liked the 57 as is...actually, I liked the tri five plain models best......150 2dr sedan
The Impala appeared in 1958 as a sub-series of the BelAir.
Means you had to order a BelAir with the Impala option.
Impala became a series of it's own in 1959
