57 Ranchero power steering??????

I am doing my 57 Ranchero with a 302 and want to add power steering with not a lot of cost. Does anybody know if I can do this with parts out of any other cars? Possibly some newer year mustang or something that the local pick and pull would have?

thanks Jeff

"want to add power steering with not a lot of cost" every time I open my wallet to work on something a hundred dollar bill flys out, sometimes in a flock!!! Might check the early 70's ranchero, I was told that you could use spindals from them on some 50's and 60's fords for the disc brakes. So you might check the steering box and column??also might look at the maverick and granada??Good luck and POST some pics. Brian

www.borgeson.com I believe is the answer for that..By the time I have gone through all the trouble of cobbling something I have had enough in it to go get myself the right thing in the first place..

The Ranchero frame is the same as the hardtops and sedans. I believe if you check, there is either a kit or a certain model of powersteering gearbox that fits that model of rig.
I'd check the adds for power steering conversions and maybe check a Ford forum to see what the hot lick setup is.

Ranchero power steering

There is a good rack and pinion setup that I have used on three vehicles of this type. One of the streetrod manufacturing companies makes the brackets which mount a Cavalier power rack. I usually pay 35.00 locally for a good used rack. This setup drives very well, has good clearance etc. I don't know if I am allowed to list the company on this forum. If you need additional info, PM me. Fatmans kit is $440.00 which includes all the u-joints etc.

I haven't seen anything you couldn't post here with respect to hotrod products and such,if I'm wrong would a moderator please stand up?? Of course you can't post Porn or that kinda crap. As long as it's in the vein of hotrodding you'll be fine. I post links to stuff all the time and see others that do. Brian

You probably won't get away with this cheap. If you go the picn-N-pull route I would have whatever you get rebuilt because you never know what it's been through. If you go the intergal power steering box, you most likely will need to notch the frame and modify your steering column which is a lot of work (been there, done that) Wurth-it designs makes a rack & pinion kit but it's not cheap. The bottom line is that to do it right is not going to be a low cost job but whatever you do or who you buy your kit from, check the company reviews on this site.

Grandpaws57 recently installed a rack&pinion in his car, after some very bad luck with a 605 Conversion and the vendors that sold it to him.

Might want to look up that thread-----605 conversion--wanders bad.

I do not know how to post the links to the threads, so perhaps someone here can look it up and post it.
