572 in 68 Camaro

572 in 68 Camaro

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am in the planning stage of my first serious street rod project. I have a 68 Camaro with no engine or transmission. I am starting with a fuel injected 572 crate engine and an intercooled centrifical supercharger. The goal is to have 800-900 streetable horsepower with an exterior look that is pretty much stock with the exception of massive rubber, roll cage, and maybe wheelie bars. Need any and all advice on everything from fuel injection, ignition systems, electronics and computers to brakes, suspension, frame reinforcing, automatic transmissions, a/c, p/s, rearends, cooling systems, etc. Thanks for any replies!

Well you certainly have an ambitious project in mind. Hope you have mega dollars to go along with your plans. The engine alone is about $12,000 plus the supercharger. I'd suggest you do a LOT of research before you invest any money as you apparently still have much knowledge to gain. This is a good thing! Having goals & dreams in life are very important. Gaining knowledge is what it (life) is really about.

Posting the same question to all forums is not the proper way to get advice. pick one forum and start a discussion.

I see now that you posted the same question in several areas now...my bad! However, you may get responses from individuals if you could be more specific in your requests for info. Generic, "need all ino about an area", requests tends to put people off and have the opposite effect. Could you be more specific in your request in each area? Is this project an idea or have you started to put it together yet?

Thanks for the reply and I've been advised by others as well about the multiple, duplicate threads. I'll try to be more specific in the future, but as this is also my first attempt at posting on a site like this I have a lot to learn. I tried to give an overall picture hoping to get as much info back as possible as it all ties together. As far as the engine I'm pretty firm on the 572. What type or brand of fuel injection would you recommend and is there a way to match it up with an ignition system that is quickly re-tunable? I've got an Edge chip system on my Chevy diesel and in a couple of seconds can go from 300 to 425+ hp. Haven't ordered anything yet but know this is a $50,000.00 project and want to do it right the first go round.

Sorry Lonestar, not trying to impress anyone. Just trying to fulfil lifetime dream. Know it's going to be expensive and trying to plan for the worst. If you have any suggestions on how to package this together, please reply. Thanks,smac68.

Any comments on the F.A.S.T. fuel injection system? It appears to have the electronics that might work. They state it has 4 different tuning settings from fuel economy to all out performance. Thanks, smac!
