'58 Anglia Pros &Cons?

My Brother-in-Law is interested in a '58 Anglia to make into a Hot Rod- kinda mild Pro-Street style similar to my Henry J. I know very little about Anglias and have yet to go see the car. Anybody with any pros or cons about suspension, chopping, installing a V8? I know the approximate size from photos and I think he'll like the smaller wheelbase. We're just hashing out a plan if he goes for it: Mustang II suspension, small block, mild chop, tub and 4-link. Any advice as due to my new shop I'll be his major resource!! Thanks guys - Dragon J

The only way to go with these cars is a complete tube chassis attached to the body at the inner rocker panels. I have a 2-dr wagon (57 Prefect). I also had a 59 Thames (panel).
I built the panel while I was in college on a shoestring budget, tried to use a lot of the stock chassis parts and made a very quick but unsafe car (no stopping power).
The wagon has a 1 1/2 x 2 1/2" tube main frame with 2" outriggers to the body. The front suspension is a narrowed early Pinto(Must II). The rear is a narrowed 55-57 chevy unit. Ladder bar and leaf (modified stockers) rear suspension.
The firewall is even with the bottom of the dash and the seats sit back about eight inches from original position. Stock steering column hooked to an early Pinto steering coupler(looks like large speedo cable).
This car with a dual four barrel Big block is real high on the FUN factor, tho a bit unnerving to passengers who aren't used to the old "Altered walk" style launches. It has a four speed so it likes to do strange things on full power shifts on street surfaces.
This body style used to be hard to get parts for but parts are more plentiful nowdays, with the internet connections. By all means build one!!

Thanks, Bob! I'll pass on the info to the Bro'in Law and see what he says. Like I say, I haven't seen it 'cept pictures but it looks like fun and you don't see the later Anglias every day. I appreciate your advice and experience!!

Thanks again for the info guys! I've passed some on to the Brother-in-law/ with pics and websites and he's getting excited about the project- trying to convince him to go see the guy this weekend and make a deal. Joe, Thanks but I don't think he'd like the Morris- but I do know a guy who does tho' and I'll also pass that info on (he's more into mild restorations- not rods but not full-on restos) I'll let you know if he's interested. Thanks again guys- it's great to get some serious help!!

Thanks again guys!! I appreciate the responses and I think I've got him convinced to buy... now if we can hide it from his wife...!!! My wife (his sis) thinks it is a great little car- maybe she can talk to her sis in law and convince her it is worth it!!! After all, Christmas is coming!! Thanks again!
