dj's 58 sedan delivery

I recently purchased a 58 Chevy Sedan Delivery with a LT1 TPI 350 engine. While driving it home, I noticed that the fuel gauge did not work. After filling it up, still no difference. Today, while wiggling under the dash, I noticed no wires are connected to the two terminals on the back of the gauge--duh. I found two female connector, one blue and one red-- I hooked each one, turned on the key and when turning on the key, the needle would just flicker, so I reversed the wires and now it pegs out to the full reading..Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome DJBoen,

By any chance was the fuel tank full of fuel? Are you positive one of the two leads you found run to the connector to the tank fuel sender? Check for continuity to be sure. If the tank wasn't full possible the fuel sender in the tank is bad.

Oh, I think a '58 Chevy sedan delivery would be very cool. Enjoy retirement.

No, I know that the tank is not full--i have driven roughly 100 miles. I will check the sender--thanks for your help. Yes, the 58 is really a cool ride, I have always wanted a Sedan Delivery, found this one over in Hesparia, CA and couldn't live without it--ha ha.

Remember...On a Chevy the sender housing has to be grounded, otherwise it will go past full and stay there. Could be your problem.

If that doesnt fix it, post a question in the electrical forum. This forum is for introductions only.
