'59 Apache to '56 Chev front tin swap

I'm working over my beater '59 Apache and am considering changing out the complete front tins. A friend of mine has the set from a 1 ton '57, inc the fenders, hood, lower valance and core support. The '57 tins are in better shape, and I like the look of the earlier stuff better. To make the Frankentruck deal complete, I want to use a '55 or '56 grill, which in theory, should also fit the '57. Can anyone point me to an article or thread about doing this? How compatable are the parts?

Rusty59 the frame horns on the 58-59 are longer than the 55-57.You will have to trim them back to make the early tins work.I believe the core support is farther out on the 58-59.Measure the frame on the donor truck and drill the holes for the core support.Pre-assemble the front clip then mount it on the 59.I think the hood hinges are different on the 57 as well but the cabs are the same so the fenders should bolt up ok.Good luck with your project and hit the "55 to 59 chevy truck owners" thread and post your progress.I would like to see how it comes out

Darn good idea! My running mate Gunney has the tins off his '57 Cameo, so I'll measure his and compare. I'll make sure to get everything forward of the cab since the inner fenders are bound to be different as well. So far, it doesn't sound like too big a deal.
