Post '59 Chevy 348 605 PS convertion

Hello, We have a '59 Chevy Impala with standard steering. My wife is the primary driver and I would like to convert it over to the 605 power steering. I have been having troble finding much on doing this to "W" 348 or 409 blocks. Will I have to drill holes in my block? I did not notice any holse for this on my block.
Will any Power steering pump work? Where do I gat the brackets from. Are there kits out there of this. Most kit places I call will only cover SB and BB lime 396 - 454.
Thanks in Advance
Jim

1959 chevy 605 power steering

there are a number of places that sell power steering change overs but be sure to say far away from classic performance products they will take your money and if you have a problem with there product you are out of luck as i found out after spending over 1200.00 dollars on there junk parts try www.lategreatchevy.com

you seem a little confused. the 605 conversion box uses the manual steering setup. it does not use the original style power assisted ram .instead the 605 box is attached to the chassis with an adapter plate and then it is just a matter of hooking up the hoses from the pump to the box

59 impala power steering

Hi Wagon Man
You are right, I not only confused but lost.
My 59 has factory power steering and the pump is mounted to the back of the generator. To go to the 605 I must first move the pump to the front of the motor, I have the brackets to do this but do not know what year pump to buy.
Thanks 283v8

you could sell the power steering setup you have . you will need to install a manual steering drag link before you can convert to a 605. i got my setup from late great chevy, they should be able to help you out
