59 Dodge Custom

Here's the deal, I really know nothing about this car, it was before my time. Anyway I have a coworker that is moving and needs to rid of his 59 Dodge Custom 2 door, it has a 413, with typewriter shift. The car is in pretty good shape, minor rust on the lower doors. The floor and trunk pans are solid as a rock. It is a runner, the question is, is it worth it to do a full restoration?? It is somewhat of a large car, what do yo estimate it might be worth if a full restoration is done flawlessly? He has the original build sheet and all #'s are matching. My price is free of charge, just have to pick it up Sunday, title is already in my hands..

Go for it.....free is best. You will probably be best to keep it all original.

I would bag it, put a sarape, (mexican blanket), over the seats and go hunting for 59 caddies. If your personal preferences allow it, put a big set of bullhorns on the hood.(ok, maybe not) I don't know if you can get rid of the chrome on the side,(why did dodge do that?), But I would get rid of as much ornamentation as I could and paint it flat black. Do it black/blue two tone if you want to get fancy. Find a pin-striper trying to make a name for himself to lay about 4000' (can you tell I'm gettin excited?), of fine line voodoo art on it. Although the stock hubcaps are pretty cool (if you have them), you could try some starburst hubcaps on some wide whites, (bias ply if you can stand it). I am not sure but I think you can put a 440 in that without too much problem. Get some Southern Culture on the Skids, (dirt track date is my favorite),CDs and go clean up and have some fun at nostalgia nite. Or you could restore it and try to turn it. Here is one I found on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge...spagenameZWDVW I would watch that one to see if there was any interest. It has 8 days left on a 10 day auction and already it is bid up to 10 g. You might make out OK if you restore it. I wouldn't expect a profit if you don't do most of the work yourself though. Either way it looks like fun.
