Communication is a rare commodity these days.
Your asking us if you prefer peanut butter or jam.
How the hell do we know what you want.
The LQ4/4L80 combo is excellent
The 350/TH400 is excellent.

What's the usage?
What's your budget
What's your skill level

Let's start there.

350 and 400 trans would be cheaper, easier and probly just as reliable if not more reliable.

A basic stock rebuild the 350/400 is going to be cheaper. The 350/400 is going to be easier. I'm really not up to speed on the exact cost of building a 6.0/480 but that should be enough to build a 6.0/480 that will out perform the 350/400 in every catagory including better milage. You're comparing nearly 60 year old technology to 15 year old technology. If I had 8,000 to get the job done I'd go with the 6.0 and you'll probably have change left over.

Is 8k the entire vehicle budget? Or strictly motor and trans?

The LS engine has a very good fuel management system and ignition system from the factory. The LS cylinder heads have decent flow from the factory.
If you built a 350 with a roller cam/fuel injection/crank fired ignition, you would have virtually the same thing.
If you build both engines factory stock, then the LS engine has a roller cam, fuel injection and better ignition and cylinder head flow.

Skill level guys! He's admitted to weak skill level!
A 350 turbo 400 combo will be more than he can handle let alone getting into the complexities of a newer computer controlled motor/tranny.
