6 to 12v conv

I have a 49 f1 that I am slowly but surely changing to 12v, I was told I had to put a power reducer to the dist. cause it will burn out my points w/ 12v, I've changed everything else related to the conv. I even found a 12v starter from LMC Truck that will fit a flathead, for $299. seems to be a good deal, I haven't ordered it yet cause I just found out about it. could someone tell me anything about the dist. thanks JOJO

Doc here,

Did you upgrade the coil to 12 volts yet?

If so get a standard Ballast Resistor and hook it up between the Ignition wire, and the + side of the coil..

Do not mount it (the Ballast) on the coil, It heats very hot, and will shorten the life of the coil..Mount it on a metal surface that is free of fuel and petroleum lines and can not catch fire to anything AND where you won't accidentally rest your arm on it..( )
