62 buick skylark upgrade
 
I am gutting this car and redoing the whole thing. I have a 95 camero to put into this buick. From the complete car harness to the motor its all going in. My hope is when I am done it will look like a 62 but will be a 95 everything.

Question: What are some of the major things to consider. Like i am not sure if I have to lose the heater system or not. I sure hope not.

Welcome! As long as the engine fits you should be able to keep the Buick heater system. You will get more response on the main board, not too many read the intro section as opposed to the main boards.

I doubt the trunk is that big...

I don't know what parts from the CamAro you plan to swap, but the heater box is probably the least of your concerns. First, be aware that the 61-63 Skylark/F-85 are among GM's first attempts at unibody cars. Yes, larger iron and aluminum engines have been swapped into these cars for decades (including the related Tempests), but be aware of the structural limitations. Note that the stock axle is a 6.5" unit that's unique to the 61-63 cars. The Camaro axle is a three bar suspension and is a different width, so there will be fabrication if you plan to use it. The Camaro front suspension is McPherson strut, so that doesn't swap without major sheet metal work, since the Camaro inner fenders are the mounting points for the tops of the struts. The Skylark uses a drop-out suspension crossmember that also mounts the engine and steering. Again, the different track width of the two cars means you can't adapt the Camaro rack without narrowing the inner pivot points. Trans tunnel in the Skylark is tiny and the stock transmissions are similarly very small. Any modern trans will require sheet metal work to enlarge the tunnel. Wheel wells are also tiny - I can barely get 205/70-14s to fit under my F-85. The stock exhaust runs down the tunnel next to the driveshaft (which is two-piece to allow for a lower floor). I was able to squeeze a single 2.5" pipe in there (stock is 2"). Yes, people have simply run duals under the floor pan, but that really lowers ground clearance or requires the car to be jacked up.

Nothing here is impossible, but be aware of the limitations of the platform. I'll offer a suggestion. The stock 215 V8 was bought by Rover, who enlarged it to 4.6 liters. The Rover motor bolts into the Skylark. Just a thought.

I'm not sure I'd start with what you're starting with, but I applaud the fact that you intend to take something and make it better according to what you want. That's how most of us learned to be hot rodders, by doing and learning from our mistakes. I left quite a few hulks sitting out behind the shed before I understood how things worked. Tear into it, do what you want to. If it works out, great. If not, try something different next time. :thumbup:

FWD swap.
 
There was a early 50's stude at the local car show last summer. It had the body shell swaped onto a newer GM V6 Front wheel drive platform. My step son said the shop foreman at a local GM dealership built it. It had the GM firewall, and instrument panel inner fenders and radiator support. Gm seats, steering, etc,

I haven't done that exact thing before, but it excites me. It's the kind of thing that I like to do. Push the envelope. Be different.

body swap.
 
It still had the decals on the radiator support, and hoses, wires every where, Hotrods are supposed to be easy to work on, but he was a GM pro. I saw another body shell swap at Paseo Robes a few years ago, before the show moved, We did that over 50 years ago , We put an olds Rocket engine, trans, rear and cut down instrument panel in a 36 chevy coupe. ran it for a couple years, then found a 31 chrysler body. We cut the IP loose, laid it on the floor, left the chevy floor in place and cut off the coupe shell. We lowered the roadster body down, trimmed the floor to channel it, trimmed the instrument panel again, a real unfinished Rat rod roadster, bullet holes. patina paint.
