'62 chevy drive train
I'm new to building motors, so here goes, My current project is a "62 chevy impala convertible and this is what i've done so far,
bored block .030 over installed stock compression pistons polished crank and installed new bearings installed rv cam with advertised int. lift .281 ex. lift .296 duration int. 204 ex. 214 lobe center int. 107 ex. 214 installed a pair of "462" heads with mild port work, hardened seats, port matching. performer 2101 intake performer 1406 carb. .5" phenolic spacer 2 inch rams horns port matched to heads opened up to 2.25 at collector flange 2.25 dual exhaust with a pair of magnaflow mufflers (no crossover/ equalizer pipe, kinda hard to do with an "x" frame). pertronix ignition timing at 35 degrees total advance all in at 2500 rpm. rebuilt 700r4 trans new driveshaft with billet center support and slip yoke rear shaft rebuilt stock rear end with 3.08 gears 24.5" tall rear tires I'm still working on little details on the car and I'm wondering how this set up should run, I'm making this car strictly a cruiserand trying to keep everything as "stock looking as possible.I failed to mention that evrything but machine work, exhaust and trans. were done in my garage. |

You got me on the 5" spacer??? anyway with the 700R4 the best performance upgrade would be to change out that 3.08 and install a set of 3.73's. Calculations show with your tires....3.08 = 2069 rpm
3.73 = 2506 rpm or even a 4.11 = 2761 rpm ....you would still be able to cruise all day long, my pick would be the 3.73 or something close. |
