62 Pontiac Ventura Fact 6 Pac

So as I mentioned (somewhere) I'm having a yard sale today.

I got to talking with this guy who is over here from the central valley for a Hockey practice for his kid and was just wandering around yard sales to kill time.

We start talking cars (I'm trying to sell him some left over stuff) and he tells me about his first car.
A 1962 Pontiac Ventura with a factory 6 pac. His Dads still got it, he says his Dad just lets it sit and rot - doesn't really want to do anything with it.

I told him this would be a great project car for one of his kids but he says "Naw, they're all just into hockey".

So I got his e-mail and such and we're going to keep in touch. He says he'll talk to his dad about it but the dads a 73 yr old guy who probably don't want to hear it.

What do you think a car like this would be worth?

Sounds like a collectors item to me but I don't know much about Pontiacs.

Anybody?

Where in the Central Valley? If you're serios about buying it and it's not too far away I'll check it out for you. I have too many projects now I don't have time for, so no, I don't want another car. Toomanytoyz lives in Fresno, willys36 in Bakersfield, I'm in the middle of both, Visalia. Dan

Hey, with my Mustang I can't possibly buy it, but it would sure great to help somebody get into it. I've never seen one, found a few pics on the web.

I was more thinking along the lines of meeting the old guy and check it out if it works out when I e-mail the guy. . I'll let you know if anything comes of it. I just thought "Wow - what a score"

Just like you, probably, I've actually got way to many cars and car projects.

'65 Mustang fastback - picking up front clip next week. (I hope!)

I've got a Factory XR7 '67 Cougar - Got it ~20Yrs ago. did the prep and painted it at Earl Schieb. (came out great - white pearl) but it's got well over 200K on it, use it for emergancy trans. If nothing else will run the Cougar Will, sorta, ratty interior, torn headliner, seats in it from a 69 coupe, still looking for new foam buns, been 2-3 years now. pain in the ...

I've got my truck, a 75 Chev full size Blazer I got when my Dad died. 78K Original But on 3-4th Engine re-do.
Original Engine 350.
1 cut at a mild setup - didn't go good enough. cam - manifold - headers.
1 Hi-Po 350 - still the same block and crank, both std., '69 Factory Alum. Hi-rise LT1 manifold - no egr , Ported Slant plug, screw in stud, 2.02 valve heads, 11.5:1 Comp,
Then the (1st) gas crunch came and I burned a hole in a piston when the knock suppressor ran out of water on a hot day.
(Installed Temp engine - pass car 2 bolt main 350.)

New Pistons with lower comp, and a slightly hotter cam - moved the rpm range up- and went to 4.10 rear end. Still goes GOOD! It's up about 2- 1/2 " w/Double shocks.

- Wiring caught fire one morning. I got it out but had to remove everything, sandblast it, passivate the bare metal, paint it and install new inside wiring looms. Every time I start work on it something else happens and it's been sitting for 6-7 years. Probably could finish it in a week.

Then there's the '67 Barracuda I loaned my Cousins Daughter - up in redding. She got another car and it's parked at some friends of her brothers. Worn out 318 I think, guy claimed he made into a 340 but I think he was full of Purple Dandelions , so to speak. I'd tow it down here but where would I put it . . .

Ah . . .So many cars, so little time.

Question

Surprised there is not an older Pontiac freak here. The '62's came with aluminum front ends (special order) and aluminum wheel hubs. The steel wheels mounted on the outer circumference of them. Anything to cut weight back then.

To find something like this sitting in someone's yard now would be quite a find. It was a beautiful automobile.
