re: 625 Road Demon Jr. Problems!!!!

Edelbrock carbs?

Do you understand the principles of a carb and how air flow and fuel emusification/atomization relate to power?

The only reason the Eddys work is because of the small restrictive venturi design causing high velocity, once you get off idle their all used up.

Let's not forget the internal cracks and leaks, mid range lean out and poor performance.

re: 625 Road Demon Jr. Problems!!!!

My Speed Demon was running badly and I didīnt find the problem until I was installing a heat shield. To get the shield on and clear the vac pipe for the brakes and PCV I had to raise the carb one half inch.
Before reinstalling the carb I checked the throttle blades and set them right.
Trying to hook up the throttle cable I found it had been holding the blades open just a tad and I had set the mixture to compensate.
I relocated the fixing for the throttle cable and it just slipped into place on the throttle arm of the carb no pulling or binding.
I used two parts of an Edelbrock throttle bracket and bolted them to the original throttle cable position.Raising the cable also made an improvement.

re: 625 Road Demon Jr. Problems!!!!

I had the exact same problem you had. 383 stroker ran perfect for a month then got worse and worse to the point I had raw gas dripping out the headers on the ground. A DEFECTIVE carb found out they left out a plug in the bottom of the carb on the secondary side. This plug missing cause the gasket between the metering plate and carb body to get a tear in it. The longer you run the engine the bigger the tear. The bigger the tear the richer the mixture. I got a new gasket and made a steel plug and it works fine now.

When I contacted BG about this they said yea we have had a few of those.
Like it was no big deal.

I got pictures of all this but don't know how to post them.

re: 625 Road Demon Jr. Problems!!!!

I have had 2 Mighty Demons, the first one (650) I had absolutely no issues except a little rich at idle, the second one (750) thats a different subject altogether, the carb leaked from the secondary accelertor pump and I replaced that,as well as all the gaskets on that side which it helped immensely, the carb still leaks down but not as bad, I have gone through all the float levels, even lowered them, checked everything for cracks and still cant come up with anything, it runs pig rich at idle and in order for it to idle half way descent I had to turn the Idle Eze out as far as it would go, the fuel pump is the same FP as I used with the 650MD and had no issues, this carb was also recomended by BG for the application. I even called their tech support twice and both times I seemed to get someone who really wasnt as truely knowledgeable as he should of been. We had the engine on the Dyno and kept coming up with little issues of fuel calibration not really staying put as well as what appeared to be an ignition issue. I pulled on the Dyno 392RWHP and 412RWTQ out of my 427sbc on every pull we did after a short shut off we would get out best pull on the first run after that the numbers always dropped as much as 15-25 horse, I have since replaced the Ignition and becasue I dont drive this during the winter I havent really dealt with the Carb. I had planned on pulling the mettering bodies & fuel bowles off of the 650 and putting them on the 750 as well as swapping out all the jets to see if it cures the problem. Maybe the BG tech guy can shed some light on what is going on here.

XCLR8N67,

It's hard to say specifically what is causing the problem you're having with the parts you've changed. Since you're not using the car right now, if you'll send the carburetor back to us we can reflow it for you, and rectify this situation.

Well I guess I will take it off and let it air out so I can ship it back to you, is their a time frame as to how long this should take?

We're going to be a little backed up from the Holidays, so probably about two weeks.

I noticed that no one has mentioned the transition slots.Be sure and recheck where the butterflies are and arent below where they will be into the main at idle.
