63 chevy c10 stepside

hey everyone new to the site few questions here.i have a 63 chevy c10 step side that my wifes grandfather gave me its in rough shape and i heard that i can put the body right onto a late 80's s10 and everything will fit with very few mods is this true? or what is the best year or truck to do this with? the frame and everthing is rusted right out i want to use the original body but i do not care what is under it if anyone has any tips please let me know thanks

This isn't true. It can fit on a 67-72 or 73-87 fullsize frame, with some modifications. Truthfully the 60-66 uses two completely different frames, and I *think* 63 was the transition year to the newer frame that shares a bit in common with the 67+ truck frames. If it's got the older frame (I know for a fact 62 does) it'll be more work to get the bed to fit, but not much.

Unless you're making a 4wd truck, I'd stick with the stock trailing arm rear suspension, the leafs aren't going to do you any favors unless it's going to be hauling a lot. The later trucks with their disc brake front ends are a huge improvement though.

I'd like to see the frame, if it's just some surface rust, you'd be way ahead to clean it up, coat it and swap in a 73-87 front crossmember. It bolts in, and is a lot less of a headache than figuring out what is supposed to fit where.
