This isn't true. It can fit on a 67-72 or 73-87 fullsize frame, with some modifications. Truthfully the 60-66 uses two completely different frames, and I *think* 63 was the transition year to the newer frame that shares a bit in common with the 67+ truck frames. If it's got the older frame (I know for a fact 62 does) it'll be more work to get the bed to fit, but not much.
Unless you're making a 4wd truck, I'd stick with the stock trailing arm rear suspension, the leafs aren't going to do you any favors unless it's going to be hauling a lot. The later trucks with their disc brake front ends are a huge improvement though.
I'd like to see the frame, if it's just some surface rust, you'd be way ahead to clean it up, coat it and swap in a 73-87 front crossmember. It bolts in, and is a lot less of a headache than figuring out what is supposed to fit where.
