63 impala front disc brake conversion
hey guys I have 63 impala with manual brakes. I would like to go
to power brakes with the front changed to discs. Some one told me the kits are overpriced. He said to just buy the caliper brackets and get the rest of the parts at local parts stores/salvage yards. Is he right ? Classic performance sells the brackets for 65.00. what rotors, calipers and master cyclinder and booster should I look for to go with the brackets. If he is wrong is there another gm car I can take the whole assembly off and put on the impala? Thanks for your help, derwood3 |
do yourself a favor....... get in touch with Classic, or master Power brakes and just purchase a whole kit. You are going to save yourself a whole lot of headaches and worrying about the compatibilty of components. Now only that but anything brake component wise you get from a salvage yards typically needs to be completly rebuild anyway. I dont know about you but I like to know for sure that my car is going to stop when I hit the brakes. :)

Hardware and installation instructions. Drop Kits also include the drop spindle. 1958-64 Cars came with a single master cylinder that feed the drum brake system. The power disc brake system upgrades to a dual master cylinder and proportional valve. This allows the brake fluid system to be separate decreasing total system failure if one line is compromised. If your stock Chevy is in need of disc brakes this is the setup for you. Also offered is a 2" drop spindle kit. This kit lowers the car using a drop spindle. When upgrading to disc brake the car should be upgraded to 3/16 brake line, this size line build up more pressure and gives a much better pedal feel. 3/16" line is commonly used for disc brakes while 1/4" line is used on full drum brake cars. |
