I put new drums & NAPA shoes on front, new master cyl..I still need to put new brakes on the back. When I press brakes I have 1/3 peddle from floor the front end rumbles and after 1 mile the front drums are hot enough to burn. what is the problem? Anyone?
Crack the line fitting at the master cylinder to bleed off any pressure to the front wheels. Jack up the front end and see if there is drag/sound when rotating the front tires. If there is, fix the mechanical clearance of the front shoes. If there is not... then look for the cause of the residual pressure in the lines that is causing the brakes to stay applied. Could be a bad master cylinder.
While you are at it, convert to a 2 chamber master cylinder, which was started by the factory in '67.
check the back of the master make sure the hole is the same depth as the original if the hole is shalower the brakes will be applied all the time some of the rods between the master and the booster or the pedal are adjustable this may help too
