64 Chevy Front End

I am new to this site so please bear with me. I have a "64" Chevy PU and would like to update the front suspension. I have heard here about the pro's and con's of the Heidts and Fat Man products. What are my options. I am good at fabrication and welding and plan to end up doing front and rear eventually, just want to get started right. The truck will not be getting a lot of miles on it. The front sheet metal and motor will be removed for this project. Thanks.

re: 64 Chevy Front End

what's wrong with the original suspension? i can understand a brake upgrade but do you really need new control arms, etc.? what kind of driving will you be doing?

Well you might just be right. Maybe I have put too much thought into this and read too many magazines. It was a good suspension for it's time. maybe a thorough rebuilt and maybe a quicker ratio steering box would be fine. Thanks.

re: 64 Chevy Front End

A 73 to 87 Chevy truck front suspension is a near bolt in, and gives you upgraded brakes, and 5 lug wheels.

re: 64 Chevy Front End

you could always put in a larger sway bar on the front if you're worried about body roll. i wouldn't go too crazy.

if anybody complains, just tell them to get their checkbook out.
