Yup, as poncho has said it's spot-welded at the cowl seam. There are about 3 bolts, if I recall, on each side near the door opening side of the dash. Undoing those makes the dash somewhat moveable, but I imagine that removal could be done by drilling out all of the spot welds <yeesh>.
My truck is a (guess what) 1966 GMC

, and the firewall is rusted out in the fusebox area, and ALL the way up the LH kick panel
Every GMC cab that I have found so far (2) has the same problem. The GMC cabs are harder to come by than the Chevy ones, I think. I may be looking at swapping my GMC dash into a Chevy cab.
