64 Impala SS - Paint prep for center console

just removed my center console for the purpose of cleaning and repainting.
How do I prepair the console for painting, it appears the console core is all plastic material. I removed all of the hardware. How should the console be prepaired for painting, is sanding ok on plastic, or should I just clean it with solvent or ?.
Any help would be appreciated, if sanding (wet?) is ok, then what grid pape

Textured OK, Well if you sand it you'll end up removing the texture and that won't be good. I would prep it by giving it a good scuffing with a grey scotchbrite and 3M's Prep and blend liquid with water or ordinary household cleanser. What you want do is completely clean and lightly scuff the surface of the plastic. You need to identify what type of plastic it is, If I had to guess I'd bet ABS which will accept most any paint type- go light if your using laquer though. A good interior type vinyl paint would be your best option- I like Dupont's interior paint- comes ready to spray.

Cleaning plastic with regular household ammonia really seems to help the paint stick. Stinks to high heaven but it's cheap and it works.
