64cc chamber vortec heads

I was thinking of getting my vortec heads cut to 58cc to increase my compression.Would this be a good are bad thing to do and how much more compression can one gain by doing this?

You'll gain about 3/4 of a point, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your engine specs (displacement, piston style, camshaft, etc...). What are your specs?

use a thinner gasket, cut the heads as little as possible, later model heads have thinner decks, the more you cut them the thinner the deck gets, the harder it is to keep gaskets in place. if theres room after the thinner gaskets are figured in, decking the block brings comp. up faster than cutting heads requiring less metal removal, however piston to head & valve clearances become critical and must be checked, and you'l probably want to loose the hyd cam in favor of a solid, the lifters are probably gona float long before the engine starts to get going.

your dome may hit the head, there is a boss cast into these heads just below the spark plug hole and if you mill the heads this boss will hit the top of the dome!
