65 biscayne power steering box swap

I just bought a ex drag car & would like to swap out the 1965 power steering box for a newer 605 type. Borgeson has a box they have come out with to make this possible,but.....$500.

Is there a later model chevy box that will bolt in. I think the bolt patterns are the same, but what about a steering arm.

Thanks Don

I think you may be limited to 65-70 Full size Chev

You might---not sure---be able to use a box from a 68+ Nova

Can't say for sure if the 'rear steer' and the 'front steer' cars can use the same box

Hi Don, been a while since I've played with this stuff, but as I recall you will find that the 605 uses a smaller diameter pitman arm shaft. Fortunately the size is the same as used in the manual steering box so you will need to find a pitman arm from a manual steering 65 to make it work.

If you are just looking for a little more responsive steering you might check out the mid 80's G body F41 (performance suspension) steering boxes. They are the older full size design (no pitman arm change required) and should bolt up. These are a front steer box by the way.....I can't remember what the 65s were.

(look up an 84 Monte Carlo for the application)

The only issue you will run is the current pressure hose you have is probably set up with SAE compression fittings and the new gear will have metric O ring fittings. This can be overcome by either changing the fitting in the back of the pump to an O ring fitting and finding a new hose that will fit or cutting the pump end of your current hose off and putting an O ring end on by using a compression fitting splice. (I originally tried the fitting swap on mine but for some reason it would not work so I ended up doing the splice instead).
