Welcome to Hotrodders Your engine swap will be hard to do since the Corvair is a rear engine car with a transaxle. Put your question in the General Hot rodding tech forum or the engine forum and see if any of those guys know how.

Welcome. That was a wild conversion they used to do quite often in the 60s. In fact, I seem to recall at least one manufacturer (Wilcap?) made a SBC/'Vair transaxle adapter. Some kid in my home town won the local Revell National Model building contest wit a model of one. I think Dave Shulkis (owned Auto World model mail order company - the J C Whitney of model cars) made a pretty famous model of one he called the Shamrock. Was in a build up article in Model Car Science or Car Modeler magazine. Makes an awesome looking mid-engine car!

Back in the day, there were also the Crown adapter kit and the Kelmark adapter kit for Corvairs. Both kits put the Small Block in the back seat area.

The Crown kit turned the transaxle around, but the Kelmark didn't. This allowed more seat room.

Clark's Corvair (413)625-9776 or www.corvair.com has all the parts you need to do the conversion. Given the aggregate cost of the new parts, though, you might be better off buying an already converted car and selling yours. ('66 and later are best, as I recall, for some internal transaxle reason.) They seem to be worth less, converted, than with the original engine. Go figure.
Here's an active V8 site with tech articles.

Have fun!

I tried to log into that last V8Vair link but got a "Forbidden" error message. Is it me or the link?

Hmmm. Yup, that's a bad link, all right.
Try this one. It'll take years off our ages.
