65 galaxie 3 speed manual trans

I had a severe vibration in the driveline on my 65 custom 500 and found the less the 3000 mile front U joint was bad and since the tailshaft seal on the trans is leaking its time to replace it while the drive shaft is out. I went to autozone to get a U joint and seal and three different types of trans came up,one was a tremac with a few different numbers and the others were T85 and T86. I have the normal toploader 3 speed non o/d so what do I have. Jeff

You have a 3.03 3/S (same basic design as F/4/S).

Check the tailshaft bushing/yoke if there is (was) a bad vibration and the seal is wallowed out.

Go to a real parts store, with old guys behind the counter, the stores that the independent shops and mechanics get their parts from. Autozone, Kragen, Pep Boys, etc dont have the experience and can even be more costly. I bought 134A from Kragen at 14.95 a can, the local auto parts I usually get my parts from charge only 7.95 a can.

These outlets (supposed discount houses) sell mostly off-shore inferior products. There is a difference. With all of the online quality auto parts sources now, I very rarely go to any type of parts outlet.

Much less, very few speak English...

I walked through Harbor Freight a few weeks ago and no longer wonder why the CHI-COMS could not bring the Korean Conflict to a conclusion...
