A 400 turbo will fit using all factory parts. You will need a turbo 400 short tail trans, BOP bolt pattern. A 400 crossmember for 66-72 Chevelle/BOP clones.. An electric kickdown switch/wiring for downshifts and a shorter driveshaft with a larger diameter front yoke.

Thanks Bob. I was hoping I wouldn't have to change out my driveshaft. What driveshaft will bolt up to this setup? Also, I am not familiar with the wiring for downshifts. Any input would be great.

A driveshaft from a later year (66-67) 400/GTO/442/GS should fit. You may have to use an oddball rear u-joint. They are available at any real parts store.
The 400 turbo does not use a mechanical (cable/rod) throttle opening sensor. On the OEM setup a switch was mounted on the throttle linkage to signal the trans (when the pedal was pushed down to pass/accelerate) to downshift. |
