Question 65 impala tachometer wiring

Hello everyone. Does anybody know how to wire up an in dash tachometer (oem ) for a 1965 impala? I would like to connect mine and verify it's operation before ordering the correct wiring harness. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know they run off a wire that comes off the negative of the coil. Even on many computer controlled cars they still run off the coil.

I imagine on the impala that is the only point where you are going to get an RPM reading as its the only external spot where you can pickup the signal on how often the coil fires.

Thanks for the info.
I connected the tach and it worked for a short while . It stopped working after turning off my car then turning it back on.I checked all connections and I couldn't seem to find the problem. I think I will clean it with electrical cleaner and then try it again.
