Post 65 mustang rearend

i have just bought a 65 mustang and honestly it is my first ford. I was wondering what rear end came in this car. This car will spin both when on jacks and appears to have either 3.55s or 3.27s not sure which but i am pretty sure it is the 3.55s. It turns 3000 at 65. Is this a stock rear end?

Look on the pumpkin and see if it has a metal tag, it should show the ratio.

Thumbs up

My '69 428CJ with a 3.91 would turn half the the speedo reading( 3000 at 60mph) with about 28.5" tall tires.

If the doors are original, check the ID tag. It should have a code for the rear axle. That should tell you what you have if it had not been changed.

the car has 26.11in diameter tires and turns roughly 2900 rpms at 65. So according to my formula that is 3.55 rear end gears. The car does have the original doors and tag the code is: Axle Trans
1 6

According to the chart in my Chilton's, the 1 is for a 3.00 axle, and the 6 is for a C-4 trans. A 3.50 was avail for that year, but it was axle code 5. I'll have check another book I have to see if it has the same info.
