i have a 65 mustang fastback..i have front seatbelts and the rear fold down seat has slots for the rear seatbelts to come thru but no belts? when i took the bottom of seat off there was no bolt holes where i can bolt seatbelts to. did it come with rear belts? can i weld seatbelt bolt anchors to the floor board? would that be suffient to hold a seatbelt? this is for a car seat for my kid so i want to make sure its good...can anybody help?

What we do on the race cars is to drill a hole where we want the anchor to be and then put a backing plate under/over the floor board and through bolt the whole works with a tab to attach the bolt to..if one of those breaks it is not likely the accident was surviveable anyway..You can weld in anchors but it does require a skilled welder body guy to do so..we do that in places where it is not practical to do the bolt deal..

seat belts were not required until 1968
my 64 C-10, 65 Mustang, 59 Chev, either one of my 67 Chryslers----no seatbelts. GM made them standard equipment in all of their cars in 66. Could be your anchors are there, or the very least dimples in the sheetmetal where they would be attached. My 59 Elky has the dimples in the floor for belt mounting front and rear seat areas. My 66 Elky actually has all of the anchors already welded in. (even had the rear seat anchors welded in behind the cab wall) |
