65 mustang shock tower mod, what do you think??

well i finally got my 65 shock tower mod just about there! still needs filling/sanding to be finished but here it is! now i will be able to drop in the 351W tri power with headers no problem and still use stock suspension! i did need to use the GW uppers to do it though.

Moving out of the tech forum to the lounge. You should start a project journal and share the entire build.

I think your idea is pretty good but your welds definitely suck, cover them up with bondo.

I'm also installing a 351W in a '67 fastback, but I will be using the 289 manifolds, reversed pointing forward because I'm installing twin turbos.

I have not installed the engine yet and I don't think I will need to modify the towers but if I do I will copy your idea.

did a test fit of the 351W in the '67 and the manifolds touch the towers, definitelly need to copy your idea.

what did you do with the third bolt up in the tower? just deleted it?

Are you sure you have a 351w ? in 67 the mustang came with either big block or small block, I have had a 67 and a 68 fastback with a 351c and 390 and 302 and 351w they all fit without doing anything to the towers in the 67, the 351w will also fit in a 65/66 mustang also without doing anything to the towers. IMHO the shock towers are the same from 67 thru 70 and even the 69/70 cougar have the same towers in them. just saying.

Awesome job on your towers also beats the heck out of buying those aftermarket towers. I alway's like to see it when people do the work to their rides.

in Augustos' defense, the OP did ask "what do you think?"
and I always say, "if you dont think you will like the answer, dont ask the question"

Looking good

I think it is looking good and looks like you used heaver metal then you had to so should hold up well. Back in the Seventy's and early eighty's I done the mustangs, Falcons, and Fairlanes that way just to give them more room to put the 351 C in and the 351 W in. I never used the shorter arms so you should have a little more room then I did. This mod will sure make life easier getting the header on and to work on later down the road. Good luck with your project and hot rod for ever.
