650 cfm mainbody on a 750 cfm baseplate?

i got a 750cfm double pumper that everyone says is too big for my built 302. the main body has a milled choke horn and fuel bowl extensions. I was wondering what would happen if I put a 650 cfm hp main body on a 750 cfm baseplate...would it work? What cfm would I get?

Is your 302 a high rpm motor? if not I would recommend a vac secondary 600 to max 650 cfm carb. The double pumper would most likly not be able to be jetted to prevent a too rich conditoin at wot. Hopefully your motor doesent have too much cam that would cause a low vac situation. dditional info would be more helpful. any motor below about 6 liters does not need a carb greater than 650 cfm.

The 750 is most likely not too big for a "built" 302. Try it for yourself first.
like any carb it will need fine tuning.
well i looked around and it seems like all these replacement HP main bodies are for 750cfm carbs. Do they sell the 600/650 HP main bodies anywhere? I have a 1850 carb sitting on my shelf that i've been using for parts...is there anyway I can strip that main body and convert it to a double pumper main body?

I've done bunch of carbs using 650 body and put 850 base plate on it and it will help the performance.. Done one on a drag car and it did ran lot quicker over the straight 850 carb it dropped the 60 foot time much as four tenth.
What it does is to increase the air velocity so much and will not lose much CFMs. You will have lot more throttle respond over straight body and base plate. You have to taper bore the body it match the base plate bfore it will do any good.
