66 Buick Special

Well I've just started my first car project in over 15 years. My sons are 7 and 11 and were starting to take an interest in the "2Fast, 2Furious" genre of car building. Dad (that's me) decided it was time to start a project and introduce them to the "good ol' days" of car building.

After much searching for a suitable (and suitably cheap) project car I bought a '66 Buick Special for $700. It has a '74 Chev 350/TH350 swapped into it already, and since I've played with Chev's before and have never owned a Buick, that was fine by me! As we all know Chev's are typically the least expensive to build.

So far I've been scrounging parts getting ready for the full assualt under the hood. So far I've picked up an polished Edelbrock Torker and a polished Holley 750dbl pumper to sit on top of it. A Crane 480/284 cam and lifters, and a set of Crane Energizer roller rockers are sitting on my shelf too. I picked up a set of mildly work 2.02/1.60 64cc heads as well.

When I figure I've saved enough to buy the bottom end parts and have the necessary machining done I'll pull the motor and see what it looks like inside.
I hate having my project off the road for extended periods of time.

I took the boys to the local cruise a couple of weeks ago in it and they have been talking cars (real cars) ever since. Now I have to wrestle my Hot Rod mags away from them!!!

They are both chomping at the bit to start sanding and gutting the interior... and I'm just the dad to let them have at it!!!

Prior rides:
'68 Chevelle 350/Powerslide
'67 ElCamino 350/TH350
'67 Mustang GT 390/4sp

66 Buick Special

Welcome to the site 66 Buick Special. Great idea to get those boys interested in "real" cars. This type of project will give you and your boys memories that will never be forgotten. Good luck with your project and those to come.
