66 caprice dashboard dismantling
can anybody please give me some insight as to what it takes to remove the gauge panel from the dashboard of my 66 caprice? some of my lights are burned out back there and i'd like to change the bulbs out. the whole pod contains all of the gauges, and it's one big plastic piece that comes out, but i need to know if there are any nuts or bolts that are behind it that need to be removed. i know i'll have to unplug the gauges.
i'm also trying to get the pad off of the top, but i'm thinking that it's part of the main piece. it's all cracked and i have some plans for changing that, but not if i have to take out the whole dashboard. for clarification, i'm not trying to remove the dashboard. i just want to get the gauge panel out. if anyone has any experience with removing one of these dashboards, i'd really appreciate it. pics would help out a great deal as well. thanks in advance! |

Hmm
Well, I have a 67 impala, i dont think the dashes are the same. You might be able to replace the bulbs without taking out the dash. Go slow, get up underneath, and try to take one out. Some may just pull out, others may require you to twist slightly and then will come out. That is what i did. I took out my dash and man the speedo cable would not go back in for the life of me.
Just go slow and remember everything is probably brittle. |

If you are going to do further restoration, I would suggest buying the original/repro GM Service/Overhaul and Assembly manuals. They explain everything and save on broken parts.
