'66 Chevelle rear into a '69

my brother has a '69 Chevelle with a stock 10 bolt rear (a 2.73 peg leg) and stock suspension. He found a '66 Chevelle that has a 10 bolt posi 3.42 and stock suspension and was wondering if the it would swap into his car. He said the '66 Chevelle's rear is an inch narrower, but wasn't sure if it was from drum to drum or in spring location. If you have any info on the swap, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any replies.

It should bolt in......the width difference is from drum to drum.
Be sure to change the speedometer gear also....

I've got a '67 rear in my '72 and it fits ok. They apparently changed the rear widths in mid '67, as you said to about an inch wider.
