66 chevelle rearend swap

Can anyone tell me if A 10 bolt rearend out of a 71 olds cutlass SX would fit in my 66 chevelle? and if so would it require any special fabricating. My 66 has 4 trailing arms ,2 lower and 2 upper.

1971 right? It will bolt up OK but is 1-1/2" wider so you'll need to watch your wheel backspacing very closely but it will work. The rear U-joint may or may not be different so check that. I know it was on the B-O-P 8.25" 10 bolts but a '71 Olds could also have an 8.5". A '73-up won't bolt up without some work.

re:66 swap

Thanx for the info. Yes it is a 1971 olds. Is the OLDS rear end (which is a 10 bolt with posi)a stronger rear end than my 66 10 bolt? I plan on rebuilding whichever one I end up with but if the olds rear end is not a better one then I might juts keep it and add the posi. The olds had a 455 in it.

There is a possibility of 2 different 10 bolts in a '71 Olds Cutlass, the 8.25" B-O-P axle which had bolt-in axles (or at least everyone we ever opened up did) and the 8.5" Corporate 10 bolt which had just come out. In '68-'70 Olds also used on oddball that was a 10 bolt with a 12 bolt cover, very hard to find aftermarket gears for but a decently strong rearend. With a 455 I'm betting on an 8.5". Either one is stronger than your 8.2" Chevy 10-bolt but the 8.5 is by far the strongest of the 3. The 8.25" BOP's are a little harder to find parts for now but not impossible.
