66 Galaxie disc brake conversion ball joint problems

Hey hot rodders I am new to your site and was hoping someone could shed some light on my problem. I just bought a 66 galaxie 500 with a 289 and it has a disc brake conversion on it that has ford stamped all over the spindles calipers etc. the spindle has a casting # 5D8AA. problem is that one of the ball joints were cracked and a buddy of mine was nice enough to clean and air hammer out the ball joints and proceeded to throw them away at his shop and it was trash nite so they are gone. now when I got the stock lower ball joints the shaft is to big. they are a 2 bolt offset pattern and I cannot find a 2 bolt ball joint to fit into the smaller lower ball joint tapered hole. I have looked everwhere and have researched every car ford made in 78 79 and 80. Any advice or suggestions one of the shops where I live said it was to much to ream out and to find the balljoint that were in there because we know they exist but I cant find them. Hope somebody can help me. Taynuts66

Try 76 granadas. They are probably the spindles you have.

I just checked a couple of things.
Classic Performance Products uses the stock spindles, and simply mounts disc brake brackets to it.

I've also had a look (using NAPA ProLink) at Ford 2-bolt lower ball joints

#260-1075, which appear (at least using this catalog) the only ball joints of this type.

The buyer's guide tells me that these LBJ's were used on 65-72 Galaxie 500. (among many others)
This proves to be a bit inconclusive, however, because they list both drum and disc front brakes on the '72 ... AND they list both "bolt-on" and "press-in" LBJ's.

Here is a link to all of the available NAPA catalogs (Flash Format) on NAPA e-Rack

I'm wondering if one of the Mods might pick up on this thread and post the above link to some kind of "sticky"? There' s a wealth of information in those old "paper catalogs"

ball joint issues

Hey thanks guys for the replys and info. I found out the spindles were off a 78 mustang II and I had to use mustang II ball joints and modify the brackets they were on. I would have known that if I had taken them apart and had the modified ball joint to look at. I know everybody doing a restore knows not to throw anything away but my buddy forgot to bring them back. Thanks again for your help.
