[kool66impala]

I just bought a 66 impala with the original 283 and only 39,975 miles. The coil was unhooked and I'm not sure which wire goes where. The are two wires running along the firewall that are crimped into one wire connector, the wire from the distributor (points) and a condensor mounted under the distributor. Which wire goes to the + & - on the coil?

Doc here,

Find thge wire from the distributer..this hooks up to the coil - side.

The other wire should have 12 volts on it when the key is switched on/off..this wire goes to the coil +.
This wire should also have a ballast resistor on it..and on the other side of the resistor, a wire that goes direct to the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid (secondry Ignition). (may be all those crimps..)

Thanks Doc. Now I'm getting spark to the distributor cap and points but nothing to the spark plugs...i guess that means another trip to the parts store.

are you sure you put the rotor back in?

I put a new set of of points, distributor cap & rotor on it. Now it will run on the gas I pour in the carb, but the carb to intake gasket is leaking and sucking air. Back to the parts store.....but I'm making progress.

Yup..

You gotta a vacuum leak you could drive a truck through , sounds like to me..(providing the pump is working and the float isn't stuck shut)
