66 t bird 428 heads

Can you use 390 heads on a 428 Engine in a stock 1966 Ford Thunderbird? What is the difference, are they the same heads just different crank and rods ?

I don't know Fords, why don't you just go to say JEG's or Summit, look up a pair of heads and see it they're listed for both motors?

There are several 390 castings. All of them will physically "fit" the 428 (bolt patterns all the same). You should verify chamber volume as well, before using them. Compression could be too high for "pump gas". Smaller valves will improve response and low-speed power at the expense of higher-rev performance.

Bore size and stroke are different between 390 and 428. 4 1/16 x 3 3/4 vs. 4 1/8 x 4" (roughly). Rods are the same(dimensions).
