'67 Cougar tilt column broken??

I recently purchased a '67 Cougar that has a tilt away steering column. When I was driving it around the block the other day, the steering column went into "tilt" position out of no where and I'm not sure how to get it back into place. I wasnt touching anything but the steering wheel. It didnt really make any cracking or popping noises and I don't want to sound like a complete newbie but i have never worked with one of these before. I dont know how to get it back in place and I'm just about certain somethings broken.

I rebuilt quite a few tilts...its a bit of work to rebuild it ,,but its nothing too difficult.. at a GOOD auto parts store,, or restoration site,, get a exploded view...parts tear down ..on tilt steering column..
you are going to have to remove a lot of parts,,it's probably tilt latch tension spring..
good luck ..if any problems send me a message...

if you lift up on lever,,will it stay up??if so lift it up,, hold lever up with stick till you can "tear down and do it right..might take quite a few hours.. may take a few days for parts.. i think they sell a rebuild kit ..
has most parts..depending on whats wrong..
