67 Mustang Cable Clutch Conversion

I am attempting to upgrade to a cable clutch in my 67 Mustang coupe, still hanging onto the toploader but upgraded the scatter shield and clutch to cable type diaphragm duel friction.

The hard part has been the clutch cable, wont say the source but the system I got was one that called for a modified welded pedal bracket and drilling the fire wall. So far the modified pedal wont fit under the dash, despite the "minor dent" I had to pound in the lower cowl.

Anyone running a cable clutch in a 67 that has had good luck experience with other types, preferably the non welded/drilling types - or Hyd clutches?

Thanks, Gydyup

I just installed a clutch cable kit from Modern driveline, although in a 65. He also makes a kit for a 67. Mine is close to the underside of the cowl, but it bolts to the clutch pedal, and is adjustable vertically. I had my instrument panel out while installing it, so I could see how much clearance I had, and just slid it down until it cleared. I haven't used it yet, still going together. What brand did you install?

i did a cable clutch and had clearance issues with my header AFTER i had already drilled my firewall on my perfect original steel 68 fastback. I'm removing it and going with a hyd clutch.

ANY cable system will have interference issues with the driver-side header, if you're using headers vs manifolds. the cable has to loop back around to the bellhousing and in most instances with headers, the "extreme" 180deg that is there will both burn against the header and cause unsteady pedal feel because of the bind. ultimately, the better choice is to go hydraulic, if you dont mind running new custom bent hydraulic lines. otherwise, the stock z-bar setup works fine.
