I am running a 350 small block & a weiand 671 blower, 2 500cfm carters. Edelbrock aluminum heads, comp blower cam. The engine had been running great but I noticed this evening that it was popping out the passenger side exhaust when I started the engine. The headers are also glowing red to the collectors which I have not noticed before.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your help. |

Mess with your timming. Check out the Blower Drive Website, but I believe that usually means your timming is to advanced. Lets see some pics. Love them blowers. HG

i think that your carb might be too small. i am running a pair of 750 double pumpers on my small block. did you notice what you engine temp was? and yes check your timing set your inital timing at 18 degrees and total at 32 at 3000 rpm for street driving witch i think you do with a pair of 500. gas what kind 92 pump or 101 race.

Are you running the blower overdriven? If so the pump gas will not get it! Did you set your popoff valve springs?

The blower is underdriven, about 7psi boost when hammered. I have driven this car quite a bit and only recently experienced these problems. Is the cause of red headers advanced or retarted timing? I checked the BDS web site and they stated it is caused by improper timimg but didn't say which way.
You can take a look at this pro street 57 chevy by going to: hometown.aol.com/rjthomas57 Thanks for all the replies, I do appreciate the input. |

Why the hell do you have headers on in the first place? If i were you, i'd take those stupid things off and put on your stock manifolds. Those headers are too thin, and headers are worthless in blown engines.

Yea they are thin and a real pain in the *** . I my go back with a set of S.S. sanderson manifolds and get away from the headers and all the B.S. that goes with running them.
Thanks for the reply |

Don't choke that engine taking the headers off !!!
A lot of times the engine is rich causing the headers to glow. Fuel burning in them. Check your power valves and float levels. |

Usually red hot headers are due to late ignition timing. Running vacuum advance? Be sure to set timing with vacuum advance disconnected. You should be running around 10 degrees advanced or
more. Be sure to use the correct rated octane rated fuel for the compression your are running. If the headers glow red in a very short time after start up, correct the timing. Thanks, Barry. |

Yes the headers did glow very soon after starting. I will advance the timing a bit and see what happens. All the replies have been great ( except the one suggesting going back with stock manifolds). Thanks again
