'68-'72 A body 12 bolt swap to a '77-'90 B ?

Has anyone here tried this ? Under my '78 is that odd 10 bolt with the scalloped cover on the sides. I think this may be a Pontiac rear end, that there really isn't any parts availability for. I've checked already with DTS, Reider, and Randy's. And also looked at Richmonds website. I have a built 12 bolt from a Chevelle...This is just an idea right now, I haven't measured up anything as of yet...

The B-Body Rear is wider. The UCA/UpperControlArm, LCA/LowerControlArm, Shock & Spring Mount locations are also different. Lots of work moving Mounts and probably custom length & angled UCA's.

Thanks SSedan64

Without having the two side by side to look at, and measure, your confirming my suspicions that this wouldn't just be a bolt in. And I'm well aware that if one really wants to do anything, sure, it can be done if you have enough time, an/or money to do so. It would be easier to bolt in a corporate 8.5 and run with that. At least that way all the mounting points will be correct, and the 8.5 almost just as strong as the 12 bolt. at 8.875 ring gear diameter. I'm well aware that that later 10 bolts also use the 30 spline axles, '89 and up, which is the same as a stock 12 bolt. Pinion diameter is basically the same, give or take a .001, along with the spline count. That's the best way I think to run, and I'll ditch this weird 10 bolt that I've got in there now...

77-90 B-body cars are VERY common in wrecking yards. 12 bolt axles for A-body cars sell for stupid money. Sell the 12 bolt, buy the correct axle, buy the parts to upgrade it, and STILL have money left over.
