68 camaro resistor wire,,help
what year did chevy stop using resistor wire ,i want update my system. good replacement electronic dist,??(without need to refinance) what guage wire to replace resistor wire?? is it enought to replace wire from firewall to coil??? does elimination off resistor wire require new coil??? i want to try a stock dist prior to risk my new coil,, what yr stock did not have resistor wire?? i need help i am 75 yrs old , like to ride in my 68 camaro once since i put 396 bb in. thanks

In 1975 GM changed over to HEI distributors. In 1980 they started to transition to commuter control.
The HEI is totally self contained meaning it has the electronics and the coil inside. They are larger in diameter so check for firewall clearance. Run a new #14 wire from the ignition to the dist. Disconnect the yellow wire from the starter solenoid. The HEI only requires a 12 volt source. Summit, Jegs or GM performance parts are sources. vicrod |
